A Review of Class #3

Hey ok yay?. Math (Online Image)  Sourced From: http://bit.ly/2cGGsjx    Week three of mathematics class is proving to be very interesting. I'm especially enjoying my fellow classmates teaching short lessons for the class. They are doing a fabulous job and it is interesting to observe their varying teaching styles. It is also interesting to observe how technology can make a difference when presenting a lesson. I'm feeling confident in this course and I am enjoying the reading and assignments. I am beginning to understand mathematics in a different way and recognizing that my potential students will all view math in different ways too. I really enjoyed the Jo Boalers video on Brain Crossing . I found it interesting that drawing, visualizing and using symbols together in math is the most powerful way for math learning. I also like the example she provided regarding looking at numbers visually, fractions and algebra. I agree that visualizing...

A Review of Class #2

This week I learned many things about teaching mathematics. Slowly my fear of numbers and equations has begun to shift to curiosity and intrigue. I am dedicated to making learning fun and I feel that this class will help me in achieving this goal when teaching mathematics. I think one of the most important concepts to understand is the roles and responsibilities of the student, teacher, parents and principal in mathematics education. Parents have a pivotal role in supportin...
Surviving the First Day of Mathematics     Akash Kataruka. Math  Retrieved From: https://www.flickr.com/photos/akash_k Bags packed, calculator packed, and times tables semi-memorized. No matter how prepared I am, I have this overwhelming feeling of fear. "Will I know enough?", "How advanced will this be?", "Will I be able to remember enough?", are all questions at the back of my mind as I am driving to school.   I have to say that upon entering class, I felt this overwhelming feeling of relief. After briefly speaking with a few of my peers, I realized that allot of other students in my class were asking the same questions, sharing the same fears and just as nervous as me. My professor had said something during class that really stuck with me, "You don't have to be great at math to be a great math teacher". I must admit, mathematics is not my strongest subject and there have been times in my life where I felt like givin...
